Welcome to Para Athletics Association Nepal (PAAN)

Para Athletics Association Nepal (PAAN) is a Non-Governmental Organisation established in the year 2012, dedicated to the upliftment of the disabled community through the medium of athletic sport. PAAN is affiliated with the National Paralympic Committee, Nepal (NPC, Nepal) – a member country of the International Paralympic Committee (IPC). Before the establishment of PAAN, the athletic movement (including other sports) in Nepal was facilitated by NPC, Nepal, until it was realized that a specific body to facilitate and promote para-athletic events throughout Nepal and to make a contribution to the global para-athletic movement is necessary. Nepal has made participation in different para-athletic events across the globe through NPC, Nepal (before the establishment of PAAN), and PAAN (after her establishment).

In the international arena, Nepal initiated international participation in the year 2004, making participation with only one player in the Greece Olympics, 2004. The international journey of Nepalese para athletes continued with the participation in the Beijing Olympics, 2008, where two para-athletes represented Nepal. The momentum was kept alive by the participation in the Para Asian Game, Guangzhou, 2010, where a total of thirteen Nepalese para-athletes had marked their participation. Further, in the London Olympics, 2012, PAAN facilitated the para-athletic journey of Nepal with two participants.  With active participation in the para-athletics movement in Nepal, PAAN was able to make participation in the Asian Games, Incheon, South Korea, in 2014 with a total of nineteen motivated Nepalese para-athletes. While, in the Olympic Games Rio, 2016, the journey continued with two Nepalese para-athletes. Inspire by the covid pandemic, PAAN ensured the participation of Nepalese para-athletes in the international para-athletic movement through the Tokyo Olympics, 2021 where two Nepalese para-athletes made their participation.

On the training and development front, PAAN acquires knowledge, skills, and expertise from various international forums and utilizes them to empower Nepalese para athletes back at home. In this regard, PAAN has made participation in Para Youth Base Camp, South Korea in the years 2013 and 2015. Also, she participated in VISTA Conference, Toronto, Canada, in 2017.

PAAN is a Non-Governmental Organization registered in accordance within the Constitution of Nepal. She is registered in the District Administration Office, Lalitpur, Nepal with 3862/070 as the registration number. Further, she is affiliated with Social Welfare Council, Nepal where her affiliation number is 39456. And, her Permanent Account Number (PAN No.), issued by Internal Revenue Department, Nepal is 603799002.
